Spiritual Gifts Retreat
A retreat about spiritual gifts.
Praying with Scripture
The idea of praying prayers penned by another person or from a book of prayer is slightly controversial, but prayers do not always need to be from the heart at the moment of praying. Why not use God’s words? Can there be any better words to pray? I have offered several samples of biblical prayers and praying with Scripture. Use one or try them all. Or use these references to guide your own prayer from the heart.
Bible Study: Amos
This outline for a bible study on the Old Testament book of Amos was developed as a project for a seminary class on the Hebrew prophets. The format and directions, including discussion questions allows for the class to complete a survey or in-depth class. Additional questions are included to expand the study.
Evening Prayer for Longest Night
Many congregations have been adding a Blue Christmas service to their December activities to provide a place for lament and worship for those who are dreading the experiences of Christmas celebrations. The following is designed to provide an awareness and expression of worship on December 21st, the longest night of the year.
Hanging of the Greens: An Active Service of Blessing, Celebration and Decoration
This is the service used by First Lutheran Church, Chariton, IA on Saturday, December 2, 2018, the day before Advent 1. All words and music needed for the service were printed in a bulletin given to the assembly. Members of the congregation decorating committee and the altar guild led much of the service.
